DEAN CURTIS

Dean Curtis’s path to storytelling has been anything but conventional. In the early years of his three-decade career in the fire service, he created and edited a national publication for aspiring firefighters—a project that sparked his passion for writing and sharing stories. After retiring from the fire service, Dean turned his creative focus to fiction, bringing the same dedication and curiosity that fueled his first career.

His debut novel, The Idiom Stones, is a middle-grade adventure that blends mystery, magic, and heart—set against the nostalgic backdrop of the late 1980s. His next project, To Kill a Friend, ventures into darker territory: an adult psychological thriller that explores regret, aging, and the lengths people go to find meaning.

A lifelong learner, Dean has studied with the Gotham Writers Workshop and The Manuscript Academy, always pushing to refine his craft. He has also written several short stories, including Errands and False Heaven, which are currently being submitted for publication. When not writing, he works as a real estate agent in Guelph, Ontario, where he lives with his wife and their three grown children.

A passionate reader and film enthusiast, Dean draws inspiration from both page and screen. He’s a fan of Stephen King’s ability to unearth fear in the familiar, Dan Brown’s knack for weaving intellect and suspense, and Malcolm Gladwell’s gift for revealing the hidden forces behind human behavior. Above all, Dean loves to create stories he would want to read—or see on the big screen—where imagination meets emotion and the ordinary becomes something extraordinary.
